"What makes a great product shot stand out from a mediocre one is the mood it conveys. Like a painter who uses brushes and palettes to deliver emotions through light and color, HDR Light Studio add-on for Blender allows 3D artists to create atmosphere and specific moods around 3D objects," claims Andrei Becheanu, the artist behind the stunning Blender packshots.
Andrei emphasizes the importance of creating the right atmosphere in your 3D visualizations through Blender lighting.
"Nothing sets the tone better in photography and 3D visualization than proper Blender lighting. This time, I was looking for a more mysterious and elegant vibe, with a light setup capable of enhancing and highlighting the fine details and exquisite nuances of the bottle, labels, and box. Therefore, yet again I've used HDR Light Studio from Lightmap, through its add-on developed for Blender."
Andrei highlighted the essential role of the HDR Light Studio add-on for Blender in completing the project promptly while maintaining high-quality standards. Without it, compromising on quality and creative exploration would have been inevitable due to time constraints.
"What separates HDR Light Studio from the default lighting tools available in Blender is speed, accuracy, and a huge selection of high-quality studio lights. Importing the geometry from Blender into HDR Light Studio was a one-click process, and from there on I had the freedom to paint with light without any restrictions. In Blender, I would have needed to create multiple planes, add emission materials to them, then play with the ColorRamp, Texture Coordinate, and the Mapping nodes, or add HDR maps as Image textures. This means a lot of time spent tweaking the light setup, looking for some decent HDR studio lights on the internet, and trying to get the lights in the right position. With HDR Studio Light all I had to do was to focus on the areas where I wanted to have reflections, or more highlights and just paint in 3D. The ease of use coupled with the ability to merge multiple lights into a Composite Light, and then change the filter to Diffusion, basically blurring the HDR map, while still having the option to edit each light individually, is something no other 3D lighting tool can do."
Matching lighting setups across various 3D software and renderers can be tricky. But with HDR Light Studio's portable lighting format, you can easily save and load lighting projects in different software or switch renderers while ensuring consistent lighting results. For example, you can light a scene using Blender with Cycles, and then import the lighting design into HDR Light Studio with Blender and Octane.
"Another thing I like a lot about HDR Light Studio is its consistency among its various DCC connections. Regardless if you create in Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, Houdini, or Blender, the light painting process remains the same. What is even cooler is that in Blender, HDR Light Studio is compatible not only with Cycles and Eevee but also with third-party render engines like Octane and Renderman. This amount of versatility and flexibility allows 3D artists to achieve maximum scene lighting accuracy with ease, without needing to spend a lot of time on hard-to-control and slow light setups."
Andrei recommends HDR Light Studio to any 3D artist who genuinely values their craft and strive for the highest render quality.
"I warmly recommend HDR Light Studio to any 3D artist who understands that no matter how good your 3D model and materials are, if you don't create the right mood with the proper lighting tool, you won't achieve the results you desire. Without a doubt, the right tool for lighting your 3D scenes is HDR Light Studio from Lightmap."
