About Third Floor Company
Third Floor Company produces high quality CGI projects, specializing in automotive imagery. The company was founded in 2009 by the German car photographer Steffen Schrägle. Since 1999, he has worked for many large car brands and was able to bring the CGI processes into car photography. Third Floor Company was primarily set up to provide a quick turnaround of CGI imagery, whilst maintaining the high-quality standards required by clients.
The photographic experience on-location plus the understanding of CGI processes creates the perfect foundation for a flexible and professional workflow. The photographer’s perspective and understanding are hugely beneficial – from the first moment concept layouts are sent, to the final end product. Over the years, Third Floor Company has developed an effective system not only for data management and preparation for its clients but also for data evaluations, data repair/modeling, through to the final high-end image production.HDRI production services are also offered. We work with cutting-edge high end 360º cameras and have generated a substantial archive of HDRI images. So, from the first step of planning a CGI project, right through to the delivery, Third Floor Company can provide all the support required.
Using HDR Light Studio
For high-end production images, we work mainly with the 3D application VRED because it provides us with a fast workflow and high-quality results for our clients. We use HDR Light Studio mainly to light cars in a 3D studio environment and also on-location images, where the software helps us to quickly achieve a realistic light situation in an unbelievably short time. Previously, we used light setups built up inside the 3D software, but now we light the vehicles mainly with the HDRI’s from HDR Light Studio. It gives us high flexibility and also the opportunity to obtain the perfect lighting and reflections for each car shape and design, with very easy effects.
Here are some examples using HDR Light Studio for various clients and portfolio work. HDR Light Studio is the perfect tool for easily applying reflections where we want them. With the fast preview render we are able to immediately see the effect on the body shape, and can therefore quickly achieve the perfect results.
